Instructions
- Before painting: The lawn must be mowed, dry, and cleared of any debris.
- Mixing instructions: In a garden sprayer (available on our website), mix one part of lawn paint with six parts of water. Close the sprayer and shake vigorously. Pump the sprayer fully, and spray a small amount to check the desired colour shade. Bear in mind that the mix at these quantities may be darker or lighter than your desired shade. If the colour is too dark, continue to add parts of water (one part at a time) until you achieve the desired shade. Most consumers prefer the shades created by a 1-6 or 1-8 paint-to-water ratio. That being said, others prefer an even lighter shade (1-10 ratio). It’s always easier to add more water to the mix than more paint, and this is why we recommend starting with a 1-6 ratio and going from there.
- Tips: We encourage you to first experiment on some small areas until you get the desired shade. Once you have the shade you want, spray the lawn in a random orbital pattern in order to avoid visible lines and to create a more realistic look. Keep the sprayer nozzle at least 20 cm from the blades of grass. For best results, given Erba Verda’s natural composition, we recommend shaking the sprayer both before applying as well as regularly throughout the process in order to keep the pigment from settling or obstructing the nozzle. Always set the sprayer to the finest spray setting possible, in order to ensure best possible use. It’s best to avoid spraying at low pressure as well as any runoff, as this would unnecessarily waste product. After you have finished painting, we recommend unscrewing the sprayer nozzle and cleaning it. Be sure to continue rinsing out the sprayer until only clear water comes out of the nozzle once pumped. This will ensure that your pump lasts longer and be ready the next time you need to use it. Avoid walking on cement, flagstones, patio, etc., with shoes covered in wet paint. Make sure that your shoes are dry before leaving the sprayed area. To prevent excessive splashes on the edge of the concrete closest to the grass, move in the direction of the lawn as you spray. Alternatively, pour part of the lawn paint mix into a regular spray bottle (any old spray bottle will do), and spray the bordering grass at close range.
- Cautions: Take your time and apply the paint carefully to avoid accidental splashes, tracking paint with wet shoes, or spilling the paint. Do not spray in windy or wet weather. Cover any areas that you don’t want to spray, and always wear protective clothing and old shoes as these may get stained by the paint. We also recommend wearing protective glasses, gloves and a breathing mask, since the paint can cause irritation in some people. Do not spray when others are present unless they are also wearing protective gear. As with all inedible liquids, keep the paint out of reach of children. In case of accidental spray, we recommend having a bucket of soapy water and a metal or nylon brush (such as used to clean a barbecue grill) on hand to remove any unwanted spray on concrete, etc. This also works very well for removing paint that is accidentally applied to any type of hard surface, such as concrete or brick. Drying time is approximately 30 minutes in sunny weather. Drying time can be greatly impacted by shade, cloudy weather, and dampness. Check that the paint is completely dry before allowing someone to walk on the lawn.
- Coverage: 20 to 40 m2/L. Because factors such as the dilution ratio, the condition of the turf, its length, the type of application, the application method, and the desired shadow, are beyond our control, we cannot guarantee specific coverage rates. We therefore provide “average” coverage rates based on our own independent tests. Naturally, if the grass is completely yellowed and dried out, or if you prefer a darker shade, the paint won’t go as far as on a lawn that is just beginning to fade or if a lighter shade is desired.
- Longevity: If your turf is still growing and you mow the painted area, the colouring will only last until it’s time to mow again. Under ideal and dry climatic conditions with a dormant turf, and where the turf is still pliable (not crunchy), there have been cases where the paint has lasted up to six months. How long the paint lasts depends on the condition of the turf, the type of turf, the weather conditions, how much your lawn is walked on, etc. There are too many variables out of our control to be able to give specific time ranges or guarantees. That being said, most of our customers report a “colour lifespan” of 1 to 3 months.
